The Monroe County Community College Board of Trustees has approved a three- year contract for incoming President Kojo Quartey that includes a base annual salary of $165,000.

Board Chairman William Bacarella said the salary is in the midrange among comparable community colleges as defined by the Michigan Community College Activities Classification Structure. Mr. Quartey replaces David Nixon, who is retiring July 31 after 10 years as MCCC president. His contract takes effect July 8, and from that date until July 31 he will be designated “MCCC president-elect” during a busy schedule of orientation events and activities.

Mr. Quartey comes to MCCC from the City Colleges of Chicago, where he has been provost since July, 2011. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in economics from Morgan State University and a doctorate in applied economics from Mississippi State University. He has done post-doctoral work in finance and leadership.
