Oregon schools accepting applications for superintendent
6/3/2013The Oregon schools Board of Education is taking applications for the superintendent position through Friday, and will hold a special meeting June 13 to select three to five finalists for interviews.
Those interviews will be conducted the following week, officials said at a community forum held today in Clay High School.
Board President P.J. Kapfhammer said the district already had received eight applications and he hoped for a total of 20 to 25. The opening has been posted on the Web site of the Ohio School Boards Association, but the school board is conducting its own search.
Mr. Kapfhammer said the board was operating under a tight deadline, given that most Ohio school administrators had contracts signed with their current district by July 1.
The incoming superintendent will replace Michael Zalar, who is leaving to become superintendent of the North Olmsted City Schools. He has been Oregon's superintendent for five years and was principal at Clay for several years before that.
Only about 10 people other than school employees showed up at the community forum, with some asking questions about the superintendent search. Mr. Kapfhammer expressed disappointment at the low turnout.
