3 finalists remain for Oregon superintendent

The Oregon Board of Education has winnowed its field of applicants for the superintendent’s job to three and has scheduled a special closed-session meeting for 5 p.m. Monday in the administration building to begin the interview process.

The board also has scheduled a community forum for 7 p.m. June 25 at which the candidates will introduce themselves and take questions. It will be held in the Clay High School media center. Board President P.J. Kapfhammer said the district seeks public input.

The finalists, all from Ohio districts, are Lonny Rivera, principal of Wayne Trail Elementary School in Maumee; Deborah Piotrowski, superintendent of the Xenia Community Schools, and Michael Sander, superintendent of the Clinton-Massie Local School District.

They were selected among nine applicants. Michael Zalar is leaving to become superintendent of the North Olmsted City Schools in the Cleveland area. He has been Oregon’s superintendent for five years and was principal at Clay High School from 2002 to 2008.
