Bedford Schools hikes fees for pay-to play

TEMPERANCE — Athletes in Bedford Public Schools will pay more to participate in sports during the coming school year.

The Board of Education on Tuesday raised the district's sports activity fees by $10. High school students will pay $170 per year for two sports, and $85 for a third sport; in the junior high, the first two sports will be $100 and the third, $55.

Meanwhile, board member Shawna Smith announced she will resign effective Sunday for health reasons. She has been on the board 11 years. The district will accept applications to fill her seat until 4 p.m. July 15.
