Oregon City Schools officials tonight hired a new superintendent: Lonny Rivera.

Mr. Rivera, who will replace Superintendent Michael Zalar, was hired by unanimous vote to fill the position after board members came out of a 10-minute executive session during a special meeting at Clay High School tonight.

Mr. Rivera, currently the principal at Wayne Trail Elementary School in Maumee, has worked in school systems in Toledo, Oregon and Maumee for 17 years. He grew up in Oregon.

His new, four-year contract is to start Aug. 1; he will receive an annual salary of $119,094, according to school officials.

The other candidate being considered was Deborah Piotrowski, the superintendent of the Xenia Community Schools district in southwest Ohio.
