The Bedford school district has canceled its athletic trainer’s contract with ProMedica Health Systems in favor of less costly service from Mercy Health Partners Sports Medicine Division, but popular trainer Teresa Collovecchio will remain.
The district has been paying $11,000 a year, which was about to rise to $37,000. With the new contract, the district will pay $10,000.
At its meeting last week, the school board also approved higher meal prices. Breakfasts will be $1.30, while lunch will be $2.50 in the elementary schools and $2.60 in the high school. Milk will be 50 cents.
The board also accepted a recommendation from Chief Financial Officer Sharon Ramirez that it approve an application to the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority for the August borrowing needed each year for cash-flow purposes. The district receives no state payment in September and lacks cash reserves to meet expenses without the monthly revenue. Last year, the district borrowed $9 million by issuing the customary note in anticipation of state support. This year, the amount of the note will be $9.5 million.
