COLUMBUS — Bowling Green State University Police Chief Monica Moll has been named to a pair of panels watching over the Ohio’s use of an online law enforcement database that includes expanded use of facial recognition technology.

Attorney General Mike DeWine named her to the eight-member Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway Steering Committee, which will be involving in monitoring, training, security, and other issues. She will also serve on the 14-member OHLEG Advisory Council that will serve as the steering committee’s sounding board as it develops its policies. Ms. Moll is the only member from northwest Ohio on either panel.

The creation of the panels was recommended by a force convened by Mr. DeWine and co-chaired by two former Ohio Supreme Court justices. It looked at his office’s recent expansion of the facial recognition technology database to include the photos of all Ohio motorists as well as broader use of the OHLEG database that gives access to fingerprint, criminal history, motor vehicle, and other information for law enforcement. The attorney general has established Web site allowing Ohioans to review their criminal history information and act to correct any errors. That information is accessible via ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Individuals-and-Families/Consumers/Requesting-Your-Own-Criminal-Records.
