TEMPERANCE, Mich. -- The Bedford Public Schools Board of Education today voted to move forward with a $70 million project to upgrade its school facilities.

The project proposal, which would be paid for through the sale of bonds, would include $18 million for a new elementary school, whose location has not yet been determined. The project would cost the average homeowner in Bedford an additional $170 in taxes annually.

Board members discussed the project at their meeting Thursday night.

The next step in the process would be to get final approval of the project from the Michigan Department of Treasury.
