Ohio State University has selected Michael V. Drake, chancellor of the University of California in Irvine, as its next president, sources close to the search told The Dispatch.
Drake, 64, will be introduced Thursday afternoon during the Board of Trustees meeting, sources said. University officials declined to comment.
An ophthalmologist by trade, Drake has led the Irvine campus since 2005 after rising through the ranks of the California university system. Before becoming chancellor, he directed education and research for all 15 health-science schools in the University of California System.
