UT center gets grant for Great Lakes research
2/25/2014The University of Toledo’s Lake Erie Center in Oregon is getting $500,000 to research ways in which microscopic, genetic material of fish and other forms of aquatic life can be detected in Great Lakes water.
The so-called “next-generation e-DNA, or environmental DNA, sequencing” is to expand upon an Asian carp research tool developed by the University of Notre Dame.
The latest round of grants, totaling $5 million, was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
