The Monroe Board of Education and teachers union have ratified a three-year contract that suspends step pay increases for two years and has teachers work five unpaid days a year. Savings are projected to be $4 million over the life of the agreement.

The district is not in deficit but has been spending down its reserves as its enrollment and state funding have declined. The pact covers 317 teachers. Teachers with a bachelor’s degree are paid $36,110 to $55,680 depending on seniority, while those with a master’s degree are paid $40,265 to $69,954. The contract is retroactive to March 1.
