Springfield levy to be discussed Wednesday
3/10/2014The Springfield Board of Education has scheduled a forum to discuss the 3.9-mill levy operating levy request that will appear on the May 6 ballot. The forum will be 6 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Lutheran Church, 8131 Airport Hwy.
According to a board letter to district residents, input from community members about the defeat of a November, 2013, operating levy has shown that voters were unclear on why more funding was needed and what was at risk if the levy did not pass and that some voters stated they are tired of being asked to raise property taxes for any reason.
The district, the board’s letter said, now has more students, fewer staff members, and nowhere else to suggest cuts without impacting areas that will disappoint many. The need to make cuts can be prevented with the passage of the May levy, according to the board letter.
