Sylvania Schools’ investigation into a reported inappropriate relationship between a female teacher and a male teenage student is expected to conclude within a week, officials said.

District spokesman Nancy Crandell said she could not comment on whether the alleged inappropriate relationship violated any school policy, as that is part of the investigation.

In late April, the district was alerted to a possible romantic relationship between the elementary school teacher and high school student, who is 17. Ms. Crandell said district administrators believe the two met after school hours. Part of the investigation is determining whether any part of the relationship took place on school grounds.

The teacher was placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

Sylvania Police were immediately notified. Capt. Rick Schnoor said the male student is of the over the age of consent, which is 16 in Ohio, and that the teacher had no authority over the student. Thus, no illegal actions took place, and no charges were filed.

He said the student's parents have been notified. The department is in a "holding pattern" to see whether any new evidence is uncovered that indicates there is a violation of the law.
