After a national search the The University of Toledo Medical Center has tapped a current staff member to head up the former Medical College of Ohio.

Dr. Christopher Cooper is expected to be appointed to the job of dean of College of Medicine and Life Sciences by the Board of Trustees when they meet in September. Dr. Cooper will start in his new position, however, on Aug. 18, according to spokesman Jon Strunk.

“I'm really looking forward to working with people from UTMC and also from the community to help the university achieve its potential for its health-care mission. I've been here 20 years I've loved living in Toledo and its been a blessing,” Dr. Cooper said.

He said he is still negotiating his contract with the university and that his salary has not been set.

UTMC separated the role of chancellor and the dean of the College of Medicine when Dr. Jeffery Gold accepted a new position and left UTMC for the University of Nebraska earlier this year.

Dave Morlock will continue as CEO of the UT Medical Center and will report to Dr. Cooper.
