COLUMBUS State utility regulators approved a proposal yesterday by FirstEnergy Corp. to give its Ohio customers the option of purchasing energy from renewable resources.

Customers can choose to purchase a monthly minimum of 200 kilowatt-hours of credits from renewable resources such as wind and solar, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio said in a statement.

The purchase of 200 kilowatt credits could cost about $3 a month, according to the Ohio Consumers Counsel, the state s advocate for utility customers. The typical residential customer uses 850 kilowatt hours of electricity a month. FirstEnergy will provide information about the green pricing option through a bill insert.
