Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc. says it will charge customers 55 cents per 100 cubic feet of natural gas in May, a 2-cent increase from April’s rate. The new rate is based on the New York Mercantile Exchange’s closing price of 42 cents per 100 cubic feet, plus 13 cents for a state-approved service fee.

A year ago, the rate was 36 cents per 100 cubic feet. With the new rate, the average residential bill will be $53.98 in May, the gas utility predicts.
