Columbia Gas ups rate a penny for September

Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc. said Thursday its residential rate for natural gas will be 49 cents per hundred cubic feet in September, an increase of one cent over this month’s rate.

The rate is based on the recent 36 cents closing price of gas on the Nymex market, plus a 13-cent, state-approved handling fee. With the new rate, the average consumer bill in September is expected to be $31.46, the utility said.

A year ago, the rate was 42 cents per hundred cubic feet.
