Columbia Gas of Ohio Inc. said Friday that its residential rate for April will be 60 cents per 100 cubic feet of natural gas, a decrease of one cent from its March rate.

The new rate is based on the New York Mercantile Exchange’s closing price of 46 cents per 100 cubic feet, plus 14 cents for a state-approved service fee.

With the new rate, the average residential bill for April will be $83, the utility said. The average bill for March was $125.

A year ago, Columbia’s residential gas rate for April was 52 cents per 100 cubic feet. The average customer bill was $73.
