Description: LeSo Gallery Presents: “Autism: A Mexican Adventure”

LeSo Gallery, located at 1527 Starr Avenue in Toledo, presents Autism: A Mexican Adventure, an exhibition by Cleveland-based artist, Craig Matis. This exhibition features a series of 17 panels, all of which tell the story of a father who takes his autistic son on a journey through Mexico, as a way to cope with the recent death of his wife in America. Using a mixed media technique of folded paper and 3-D pencil drawings, Matis incorporates his own personal experiences with raising a special needs child into a surrealistic narrative that leads the father and son on a mystical dream journey.

The artist further transcends the visual works with an additional audio component. The gallery viewer is directly involved with the artworks: walking by the text/imagery on the gallery walls, while listening to the recorded material. This show assumes the role of storyteller and engages the senses to bring the narrative to life.

Closing Reception/Artist Talk: Saturday May 24, 2014 from 7– 9pm
