“Without Borders”, an exhibit of paintings and prints by Toledo artist, Jesse Mireles, opens at the Secor Gallery in Downtown Toledo. The exhibit is free of charge and open to the public. “Without Borders” will open with a reception on September 7th, from 6 to 11 pm. It will run until October 14, 2013.
Dominating the exhibit are large compositions. They feature schemes that range from mono- chrome to richly, colorful abstracts that are bold, liquid and evocative. The show includes a handful of small, compelling paintings and monoprints.
Born in Mexico, Mireles’ work is a visual bridge between his country of birth and his American upbringing and showcases the profound artistic influences of both countries.
“Without Borders” is culmination of Mireles’ experiments with color and paint and the interaction of both as applied to various substrates of canvas and board and paper.
Mireles is a distinguished visual artist. He is known mostly as a graphic designer whose work has achieved numerous awards and international acclaim. He is a gifted painter and printmaker, with a masterful ability to sculpt paint into creations of swirls, scrapes and gashes of color, of texture and form. His smaller executions, often painted in gouache, and his large frames, painted mostly in acrylic or mixed media, are consistently dramatic and powerful in abstract imagery.
The Secor Gallery is located in the Secor Building at 425 Jefferson Avenue at the intersection of Superior Street. For more information call Jesse Mireles at 419.349.1525 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
