Description: Toledo Museum of Art Director Brian Kennedy will speak on the topic of "Art and the Sacred" in the sanctuary of St. Michael's in the Hills Episcopal Church on Sunday, February 10 at 2 p.m. This is the second event in St. Michael's' cultural series, Common Grounds for the Community. Mr. Kennedy describes his presentation as follows: "Great works of art help to inspire us to transcend our daily circumstances. They aspire to the condition of prayer - an open engagement with hope and possibility. They open us the the Sacred and the acceptance of mystery."

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Kennedy studied art history and history at University College in Dublin, earning bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. From 2005-2010, he was director of Dartmouth College's Hood Museum of Art, and, prior to coming to the United States, he spent eight years as Assistant Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, and seven years as the Director of the National Gallery of Australia (1997-2004) in Canberra.

This new series of lectures and concerts is designed to welcome the community into St. Michael's in the Hills for enriching cultural and spiritual events. Still to come this year are a concert by Toledo's Masterworks Chorale and an organ recital by Dr. Paul Haebig, Director of Music at St. Michael's.

A reception will follow Kennedy's lecture in the fellowship hall of the church. An $8 offering is suggested at the door.
