American Cancer Society Bark for Life Book Fair

Description: 4 non-profit organizations are selected to operate the Once Read Book Center, each for 3 months. 50% of the donations received are sent to Read for Literacy. The other 50% goes to the organization to use in carrying out their local missions. Groups are permitted one book fair weekend during which they receive 100% of the donations. American Cancer Society Bark For Life will be using their funds to assist cancer patients in Wood County.

Description: Come and learn about the basic principles of Positive Discipline and effective tools for encouraging cooperation and mutual respect with children. Chip DeLorenzo will be the guest speaker at West Side Montessori’s Introduction to Positive Discipline on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.

Positive Discipline is a program developed from the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs and designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful, and resourceful members of their communities. Based on the best-selling Positive Discipline books by Dr. Jane Nelsen, it teaches important social and life skills that are encouraging for both children and adults. Positive Discipline teaches adults to employ kindness and firmness at the same time.

Chip DeLorenzo is the Head of School at the Damariscotta Montessori School in Nobleboro, Maine. He is a certified Montessori teacher (Early Childhood, Elementary I&II), and has been working in Montessori classrooms since 1995. He has been using Positive Discipline in his classrooms since he was a new teacher, and now works with Montessori schools and parents in bringing the message of Positive Discipline to the Montessori community.

The program is free and open to the public.
