Presentation on the origins of West Virginia

Description: Adrian Public Library is hosting historian Tom Nanzig on Monday, January 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the library. His PowerPoint presentation “West Virginia: orphan of secession or child of war” explores the origins of West Virginia, the secession movement of 1861-1863, and the constitutional arguments that allowed a brand new state to be created out of one of the oldest states.

This program is in conjunction with the traveling exhibit “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War” which is on display in the library through January 22.

Mr. Nanzig is history editor at Proquest Co., formerly University Microfilms, in Ann Arbor. He is a graduate of Michigan State University undergraduate and graduate programs. He is co-founder of the Ann Arbor Civil War Round Table and has served as president for 14 years and is currently vice president. He has authored several books including “The 3rd Cavalry” (1989), “The Badax (Wisconsin) Tigers” (2001), and “The Civil War Memoirs of a Virginia Cavalryman” (2007).
