Turkeyfoot Rock is Upside Down! And Other Fun Things You Did Not Know About the Battle of Fallen Timbers
When:
August 19, 2012, 3:00 PM - 4:45 PM

Venue: Dave Westrick
Location: Maumee
Address: 220 west Wayne St.

Description: The Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission is sponsoring a program on the popular and sometimes misguided history of Fallen Timbers including the legend of Turkeyfoot Rock. The program on Sunday, August 19, begins at 3 p.m. at the Lamb Center in Sidecut Metropark. Join Dr. Janet Rozick of the University of Toledo History Department as she talks about the 1794 battle and it’s affect, not just on history, but on popular culture.

At the Battle of Fallen Timbers, General Anthony Wayne changed the course of History. What is often forgotten is the General’s status as a star in the popular media of the day. Wayne lived in an era where military heroes dominated popular culture. They were the movie star/rock star idols of the day. He lived in a time where it was possible to be both Napoleon and Elvis. Dr. Rozick will explore the forgotten and sometimes amusing “pop star” side of Mad Anthony Wayne and the battle.

The program is free.
