Description: The Southern Shores Field Service Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold Scout-O-Rama at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 3775 S. Custer Rd. The event is FREE and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday May 11, 2013.

This year's theme is "The Magic of Scouting Around the World.” Though this is the 82nd Scout-O-Rama to be held in Monroe County, this will be its inaugural year as a signature event for the new Southern Shores Field Service Council.

Scouting Units from across the southern portion of Michigan will create displays and offer activities according to the theme. The purpose of Scout-O-Rama is to encourage current Scouts to practice their skills and show their Scouting spirit while inviting the public to come learn about all the great opportunities Scouting has to offer.

We are also pleased to welcome local foreign exchange students, Scouters from Libya and Canada, and the Michigan Crossroads Council’s International Scouting Committee to help us explore Scouting Around the World.

In addition to our expanded Touch-A-Truck, other Scout-O-Rama activities will include Native American Dancers, Southern Shores Pinewood Derby and best of Show Contest for qualifying Cub Scouts, Opening Parade and Ceremony, Trade-O-Ree of Scouting Memorabilia, Scouting Information Pavilion, Nature Displays, Southern Shores Tiger Cub Raingutter Regatta, Webelos Overnighter for 4th and 5th grade Scouts, Best Gateway Contest for Troops, Crews, Posts, and Sea Ships, Magician, Order of the Arrow Activities, Detroit Toyota National Scout Shop/Trading Post, Branding Station, Pedro the Boys' Life Burro, Shooting Sports for all Scouting Program levels, Geocaching for older Scouts, Moosejaw Outfitters, River Raisin Battlefield National Park Display, Coleman, Cabela’s, Annual Dutch Oven Cooking Contest, Food Vendors, Model Train Layout, a Scouts' Own Service, and an all camp movie.

Scouting Units interested in participating in this event should visit the Michigan Crossroads Council’s website at michiganscouting.org/SouthernShores/Events/03ScoutORama for further information.
