Description: The Blade’s Red, White, KABOOM will once again light up the sky on Toledo’s riverfront. The festivities are kicking off at 6:00 pm, Thursday, July 4, and admission is free this year. Event goers are encouraged to gather up family and friends to celebrate the holiday downtown. Both sides of the river, Promenade and International Parks, will offer music, food and beverages.
“We expect a fantastic show and a great turn-out,” said Event Director, Michael Mori. The annual fire-over-the-river tradition has only grown in popularity year-after-year, and although only one day this year, downtown is still going to offer all of the ingredients to make a great Thursday night under the sky.
With the continued support of Blade advertisers, specifically Taylor Automotive Group and Humana, The Blade will offer traditional Americana food leading up to the big KABOOM Fireworks, which will be synchronized to music on WXKR 94.5. Event goers will get double the display as Pyrotecnico, the world renowned fireworks company, will be doing the firework spectacles for both the Mud Hen’s game, around dusk, and for the KABOOM, around 10:00 pm.
Soft drinks and beer will be available to keep the crowd hydrated while they enjoy performances from Toledo country stars, Brynn & Emma & Friends, at 7:00 pm, followed by the sound of Toledo soul, popular Motown-style cover band Bruce Sims and The Jamm, from 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm at Festival Park. The event will benefit the Imagination Station and the United Way.
“Many thanks to our major sponsors, Taylor Automotive Group and Humana, and especially a big thanks to Mayor Mike Bell and his team for their support,” said Mori. “It is because of their hard work that we are able to continue to bring this great event to the City of Toledo.”
As in years past, no outside food, beverages, backpacks, coolers, tents, canopies, bikes, skateboards, skates, or pets will be allowed inside the parks during the event.
The Coast Guard and other law enforcement organizations will be enforcing maritime rules on the Maumee River to include:
- Extended "No Wake Zone" for boaters on the Maumee River near downtown between the I-280 Glass City Skyway Bridge and the Railroad Bridge upriver of the High Level Bridge.
- Marine traffic prohibitions in the Exclusion Zone designated by buoys near the fireworks shoot site adjacent to International Park.
- Marine traffic prohibitions in the established reduced channel near downtown for the exclusive use by Emergency Marine Traffic.
- Boaters should take it slow and safe around vessels that are anchored to minimize wakes.
- After the display, departures will be escorted by marine patrol.
