Description: Friends, families, co-workers and all good-doers will be bowling and showing their support for local charities, with the hopes of bringing awareness to these important causes.

The 10th annual Spring Strike Out is Friday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. held at The Timbers Bowling Lanes in Maumee. Proceeds from this fundraiser support Toledo charities and features raffle prizes from local sponsors, a 50/50 raffle, free pizza and much more.

“What I like about this event is that it really brings the community together, we have people from all different walks of life that come out for this because they recognize great causes,” said Mike Schmidt, president of Rotaract. “Our goal for Spring Strike Out this year is to build on the fantastic momentum we have had the past few years.”

Past Spring Strike Outs raised approximately $6,000 each for Toledo charities, including Alzheimer’s Association, Wolf Creek Y, Mom’s House and Prevention Partners of Wood County.

“Rotaract has helped the PASA Teen Board in more ways than one,” said said Michelle Erford, prevention partners program coordinator at Behavioral Connections of Wood County, one organization that has received support from The Rotaract Club of Maumee. “Not only did our high school students get a chance to develop their leadership and public speaking skills by presenting to the Rotaract Club, they now have the funds to implement their ‘Remember Prom, Stay Sober’ project.”

For this year’s Spring Strike Out, The Rotaract Club of Maumee is partnering with Easter Seals, a nonprofit, community-based health agency dedicated to helping children and adults with different abilities attain greater independence. A large Easter Seals truck will be outside The Timbers Bowling Lanes, collecting all clothing items for their fundraising.

“In addition to bowling for a local causes, we are also doing some spring cleaning,” said Schmidt. “I hope the community brings their unused clothing items to help out Easter Seals.”

The Rotaract Club of Maumee is a community-based organization for young professionals interested in giving their time through service, developing personally and networking professionally. In addition to meeting attendance, members participate in service work, such as shopping for Christmas toys for families in need. Social events are also held throughout the year, as a chance to celebrate the hard work and success this group accomplishes. This chapter is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Maumee, and in turn receives mentoring and support from this parent chapter.
