Description: The Metamora-Amboy Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its 2nd annual Fire Department Challenge on Sunday June 23, 2013 at the Metamora Community Park. Fire Departments from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan will gather to compete against each other on an obstacle course, in a Tug-a-Tanker contest, and in a Broken Hose Challenge. Children will be able to compete on an obstacle course, and there will be individual firefighter and general public competitions as well. The festivities will begin at 12:00 noon and are part of the annual Metamora Park-o-Rama celebration.
The Event will kick off with the children’s obstacle course. Kids ranging in ages from 5 to 16 will compete for the best time in their age groups. Following the children's activities will be the Fire Department Challenge. Four person teams from local fire departments will compete in several events, in full turnout gear- from helmets to boots. These teams will compete in a Tug-A-Tanker contest, a Broken Hose Challenge, and the Challenge Obstacle Course. The Obstacle Course is a relay event that tests the firefighters’ skills, endurance, and strength. They will be required to carry hose up and down stairs, simulate breaking through walls, demonstrate accuracy using a fire hose, and carry a “victim” to safety- all things that our firemen do every day in the line of duty. Following the Fire Department portion of the challenge, the obstacle course will be opened to individual firefighters and the general public to test their skills. Prizes will be awarded to the Fire Department with the most points, as well as to individual firefighters and the general public, both men and women, with the fastest time through the obstacle course. Official Rules for each event are available at the Metamora Fire Department.
