Description: Feb. 1, 2013, marks the 10th Year of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women® movement — 10 years of fighting to save women's lives from heart disease. While the progress has been significant, there's a long way to go. Here's why:

Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.

Heart disease kills more women than men, at an average rate of one death per minute.

Heart disease kills more women than all kinds of cancer combined.

Here in NW Ohio, we're ready to rise to the challenge and make this year a turning point in the fight against heart disease. We're ready to raise our voices and much-needed donations to fund vital research that can help save women's lives. And we're counting on you to join with us.

National Wear Red Day® urges you to play your part. Here's how:

• Wear red on Friday, February 1.
• Help raise funds through donations and fundraisers for lifesaving educational programs
and the development of new treatments to fight heart disease.
• Make your workplace, school or organization aware of heart disease, its deadly impact on women and how we can fight back.
• Walk the talk by being physically active, eating a heart-healthy diet and learning about heart disease and its risk factors.
• Invite others to get involved so we can advance further, faster.

It’s easy to be part of the Go Red campaign. Log on to for more information. Together, we can end heart disease. Women Go Red.
