Doctor-Led Demo To End Animal Experiments at UT
Modernize Medical Training at UT
Category: Special Events
Time: 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM
Venue: University of Toledo Health Science Campus (intersection of Arlington Ave and Hospital Dr.)
Address: 3000 Arlington Ave
Toledo, OH

Description: Please join the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine on Thursday, June 4 in Toledo to help stop the use of live animals in the emergency medicine residency program at the University of Toledo.

Help us urge the school to modernize its emergency training by using human-based methods – because Toledo deserves better.

Location: Please meet us at the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Hospital Drive.

*Signs will be provided
*Please use nearby public parking.
*If you have a pet pig who would like to join us, please bring them along.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
At the University of Toledo, residents are instructed to make incisions into a live pig's throat to insert a breathing tube, to insert needles into the chest and bones, and to split open the breastbone in order to access the heart. At the end of each session, the animals are killed. The university uses 125 pigs per year in its Emergency Skills laboratory to train residents and various emergency personnel.

Nonanimal training methods are widely used by emergency medicine residencies across the country, making this use of animals both educationally and ethically inferior.

LeSo Gallery Presents: Momentary Artist Talks
Exhibition Card
Category: Art
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Venue: LeSo Gallery
Address: 1527 Starr Avenue
Toledo, OH

Description: LeSo Gallery, located at 1527 Starr Avenue in Toledo, presents Momentary, a two artist exhibition featuring the works of Crystal Gale Phelps and Amber Valentine. Both artists will be presenting a short artist talk on June 5th, beginning at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00pm.

Valentine's work is a series of quadruple exposures created through traditional use of film and darkroom techniques. Her work fuses incidental imagery into a singular complex and saturate image, often with infinite depth.

Phelps work explores the depths of her own experience and the greater dialogue of death through life, memory, and reclamation. Through use of blood, ink, dirt, and thread, Phelps expresses herself in line and gesture on the paper.

These artists compel the viewer to sink deeper, either into the image itself or into our complex thoughts and emotions. Explore this exhibition of thoughtful works and take hold of something meaningful, however momentary.

Artist Talk: Friday June 5, 2015 from 7– 9pm

Closing Reception: Thursday June 18, 2015 from 5:30– 9pm *BusLoop

Parking is available along Starr Ave. and across the street at the Toledo Sports Center. Please refrain from parking on Valleywood Dr. in respect of our neighbors.

Any questions or other inquiries should be directed to contact@lesogallery.com and further information can be found at www.LeSoGallery.com or www.facebook.com/lesogallery .
