Description: It’s the first day of Summer and the longest day of the year so we are celebrating. Join us as we gaze upon the night sky inside our portable planetarium, STARLAB. Discover the summer constellations and their Greek origins while learning how scientists study the infinite sky above.

Each year, the timing of the solstice depends on when the Sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator. This occurs annually on June 20 or June 21 in North America, depending on your time zone. As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year.

Description: Grossology 101

This thirty minute demonstration facilitated by the Author of Grossology, Sylvia Branzei, teaches the many facets of the disgusting world of the human body. “Her Grossness” will teach you how to make wounds, sneezes and edible fake barf. Basically, this presentation is a true potpourri of grossness.

After each show, have your favorite Grossology book on hand and get it signed.

Description: The Northwest Ohio Community Art Exhibition is a non-juried art show that supports regional artists by providing an opportunity to display work in a professional gallery setting. The exhibition features artists of all abilities in a variety of media, with awards presented in several categories. The exhibition is free and open to all.

There are $1400 in cash prizes and gift certificates for winning artists, including a $500 grand prize and the Kiwanis Young Artist Award.

The exhibition begins June 21, 2013 with the Opening Ceremony at 7 p.m. at the BGSU Fine Arts Center. The exhibition runs from Jun 21- July 12. The exhibition will be closed July 4 and 5.

Artist are able to register for the event from now until June 15. You can register when you drop off your artwork or preregister online at www.nowohartshow.org/registration-form.php to skip waiting in line. Entrants are able to submit up to 3 entries. Registration fees for the artists are:
Ages 16-18: $15
Ages 19 and older: $30

Description: The Relay for Life of Southern Lucas County will be held starting on Friday, June 21th at 6:00 through Saturday, June 22th at noon. We will be at the Lucas County Fairgrounds located on Key St. in Maumee again this year. The opening ceremony will start at 6:00 with Survivor, Caregiver, and Team laps. Max & Erma’s will be providing dinner for Survivors and a guest at 6:30 with registration starting at 5:00. The Luminaria ceremony will start at 10:00 with the lighting of Luminaria bags.

We would like to invite everyone to come out and join us in celebrating the lives of people who have battled cancer, remembering loved ones lost, and fight back against this terrible disease. Throughout the event there will be activities and entertainment to enjoy plus food, raffles, and other fundraisers to help raise money.

Description: LeSo Gallery, located at 1527 Starr Avenue in Toledo, is hosting its upcoming exhibition, Intangible. Intangible will feature the ink and graphite renderings of Ian J. Welch, BGSU graduate and incoming MFA candidate at Northern Illinois University. The exhibition mixes eastern aesthetics with midwestern landscape and experimental technique. The work hints at seemingly familiar spaces yet absent is a sense of place, leaving the viewer with an intangible sense of the unknown.

The opening reception for Intangible will take place Friday, June 21, 2013, from 7:00 – 9:00pm at LeSo Gallery, and is free to the public with refreshments provided. The exhibition will close Friday July 12, 2013 with a closing reception and artist talk from 7-9pm.

Parking is available along Starr Avenue and across the street at the Toledo Sports Center. Please refrain from parking along Valleywood Drive in respect of our neighbors.

Following the opening, gallery hours will be Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 – 4:00pm.
