Pemberville's "For the LOVE of Art"

Description: Pemberville’s For the Love of ART Committee announces this year’s art show scheduled for Saturday’s, February 13th & 20th and Sunday February 14th. Area High School students and graduates of the past three years have been invited to enter this year’s show to be held at the Pemberville Opera House. The show will feature over 150 pieces and is FREE and open both Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday from Noon until 4 pm. Acclaimed artist, Emmanuel Enriquez will serve as judge for this year’s show with honors including: Best of Show, First, Second & Third Place. Winners will receive rosettes along with cash prizes given by the Pemberville Opera House. Middle School and Elementary art will be displayed in the Town Hall Council chambers for your viewing pleasure.

For the Love of Art participating businesses include: Beeker’s General Store, Riverbank Antiques, and Higher Ground Coffee Shop. Beeker’s will be the host site for Nadine Musser, silver “wear”; Alex Hall, leather goods; Rita McDougal, wearable art; and Renee Obrock, painted stemware. At Riverbank Antiques, customers can find a variety of vintage glass and pottery art pieces. Higher Ground will feature: Mary Ann Nicholson, pottery & felted art; Janet Ritter Davies, watercolors; Emma Morgan, acrylics; Ellie Meyer, photo art; and Andi Brown, jewelry.

Additionally at Higher Ground Coffee Shop, Stacia Reynolds, Independent Contracting Editor and Freelance Writer, and Poet will be on hand from 11 am – 2 pm this Saturday, the 13th and Sunday, the 14th to sign her most recent book. She is the Author of Escape Down the Roman Road, A Poetic Journey Through Life, and is published in a group poetry collection called Poetic Souls Anthology Book. She started her English degree at Owens Community College, and is working on her BA in English through the University of Phoenix. She is 41 years old, married, with two beautiful teenage daughters. She is a follower of Christ Jesus, whose life’s goal is to encourage others with her words and actions.

The Pemberville Public Library will host an indoor sidewalk chalk contest from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm this Saturday only. This contest is open to all ages and each participant will receive a raffle ticket upon entering. The raffle drawing for a prize will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Description: Director Ellie Bernstein will be joining us in Toledo for the screening of her documentary: Ghost Town-The Hebron Story. Released in 2014 and narrated by Martin Sheen, the film tells the story of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine with a focus on the city of Hebron, a microcosm of religious and political conflicts in the West Bank.

Sr Paulette Schroeder, a Tifin Fransiscn nun is featured in the film and she will be joining Ellie Bernstein for a post-film discussion. This event is free and open to public. Refreshments will be served.

Description: Levis Commons and downtown Perrysburg will come alive with the excitement of winter weather fun during Perrysburg Winterfest February 19 - 21, 2016.
Twenty first-class master and professional ice carvers will compete for $15,000 of prize money and the 2016 national title. The community is invited to witness the technical and creative expertise of the professional ice carvers as they perform their art live on Friday at Levis Commons and Saturday in downtown Perrysburg.

To complement the ice carving competition, there will be numerous ice carvings commissioned by area businesses and organizations on display throughout the weekend. From dramatic artsy pieces, to fun and whimsical and fully functional sculptures, the commissioned pieces are a great way for local businesses to get involved in Winterfest. The finished ice sculptures as well as the commissioned ice carvings will be on display through Sunday in both Perrysburg locations.

In addition to the ice carvings which will be on display throughout the weekend, a variety of children’s activities will take place at both the downtown Perrysburg and Levis Commons locations. From crafts and princess appearances to story times and scavenger hunts, there will be no shortage of fun for the entire family.
