Dinner Tonight: Molasses Cookies

Well, well, Hannah, my Delta Gamma, she's playin' real hot tunes around her old piana. And when she isn't banging away at her piano, maybe she's making these molasses cookies. When Su Johnson, an old Delta Gam, was in her sorority at BGSU, their cook made these cookies every week.

3/4 cup vegetable shortening, melted

3/4 cup butter melted

2 cups sugar, plus more for coating

1/2 cup molasses

2 eggs

4 teaspoons baking soda

4 cups flour

2 teaspoons cloves

1 teaspoon ginger

2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350°. Mix all ingredients together. Form into balls and roll balls in additional sugar. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 13 minutes.
