  • Black Kite Coffee and Pies offers – of course! – both exceptional coffee and handmade savory pies (meat and vegetarian versions). But there’s also so much more to the menu.

It’s easy to stay within our Thrifty Thursday budget of $5 per person at this Old West End coffee shop that lavishes lots of local love upon Toledo, serving Flying Rhino Coffee, Chef Tracy 419’s Paleo-friendly baked goods, Earthen Dragon Bakery scones, and Kathy’s Confections’ doughnuts, among other treats.

VIDEO: Cinnamon rolls, bagel bombs, and lots of other treats cost less than $5 at the Old West End’s Black Kite Coffee and Pies

Fragrant Cheesecake Cinnamon Rolls are warmed slightly just for you, making them extra enticing and a steal at $3. Bagel Balls – bagel-like dough stuffed with flavored cream cheese – also cost $3, as do muffins; cookies are only $1.50. If you go to the coffee shop’s famous weekend brunch (Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), you can even get eggs and toast for a mere $5.

So whether you’re in a rush and just need a grab ‘n’ go treat, or whether you want to linger among friends, Black Kite Coffee and Pies is a frugal find.
