Historic homes and beautiful blooms will delight visitors at two area garden tours this Saturday — one a tradition, the other a new event.

The Toledo Day Nursery will hold its annual garden tour, “In Another Garden,” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event-goers will view eight homes and gardens near the downtown Maumee area with local musicians and vendors on hand to contribute to the festive atmosphere.

The featured residences are only alike in their uniqueness, said Pat Scheuer, executive director of the Toledo Day Nursery. The homeowners, she said, are all “real dig-in-the-dirt gardeners.” None of them receive assistance from landscapers or any other gardening professionals.

Yvonne Andrzejak, whose Dudley Street home will be featured in the tour, said she looks forward to seeing guests share their thoughts about the various gardens. Her garden, which she tends with her husband and daughter, features flowers, a pond, and a memory garden dedicated to her late son.

The annual tour raises about $25,000, Ms. Scheuer said. That money helps support the children and families at Toledo Day Nursery, which offers child care to low-income parents otherwise priced out of those services.

Tickets for the fund-raiser cost $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour.

Advance tickets can be purchased at The Andersons, The Andersons Market, Black Diamond Garden Centers, Creque’s Greenhouse, Georgette’s Grounds and Gifts, Hoen’s Greenhouse & Garden Center, Inbloom Flowers and Gifts, Ken’s Flower Shops, Lily’s at Levis, Rhodes’ Garden Fresh, and Schramm’s Flowers.

A shuttle bus will pick up visitors from LineDrive Sportz at 2901 Key St. Parking will also be available at that location.

The Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society organized Saturday’s second garden tour, which will include 10 residential gardens and run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enter several raffles.

The event marks the first garden tour for the historical society.

The group’‍s two other fund-raisers are teas.

Money raised will support the society’‍s museum, located in the old Brandville school building at 1133 Grasser St. That site is also the starting location for Saturday’s tour.

Tickets cost $10 in advance, $12 the day of the event. They can be purchased at the Oregon office of the Genoa Bank or by calling event organizers at 419-698-1045, 419-698-6098, or 419-691-5367.

More information is available on the historical society’‍s Web site at www.ojhs.org.
