Random voters selected to win Senior Open, Farr tickets

4/24/2003

Golf's legends have left their footprints at Inverness Club for the past 80-plus years, ever since the club hosted its first United States Open in 1920. That marked the first Open appearances for Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen, and the last for aging star Harry Vardon.

Those legends are no longer with us, but living legends will fill the field in late June when Inverness hosts its eighth major championship, the U.S. Senior Open.

The Blade is giving you a chance to vote for the game's greatest living legend, and the local committee for the Senior Open will sweeten the pot with a drawing for free tickets. Everyone who submits one of the accompanying ballots by Friday, May 16, will be eligible.

We'll randomly select four winners from all mailed entries.

The prizes are: first, two Senior Open S.P. Jermain-level tickets, including a parking pass, with a value of $500; second, two Senior Open grounds tickets, including parking pass, value $250; third, four Jamie Farr Kroger Classic clubhouse passes, value $100; fourth, four Jamie Karr Kroger Classic grounds passes, value $60.

We have listed candidates for the honor, but there is also a write-in slot.

As for Tiger Woods, he'll be eligible to play in the Senior Open in 2026, just a shade past the entry deadline for this year's event at Inverness. So while he may be the game's greatest player, we won't yet elevate him to “living legend” status.
