Zummo takes lead at Habitec Open

Anthony Zummo of Mayfield Heights carded a 5-under-par 67 yesterday at Sylvania Country Club and carries a one-shot lead over five golfers into today s second and final round of the Habitec Toledo Open.

John Connelly led Toledo-area competitors in the opening round with a 3-under 69.

Former Toledoan Ken Corliss, John Martin of Port Clinton, and Tom Herzan of Findlay share the lead in the senior division after first-round 70s.

Tee times in the final round of the $25,000 Northern Ohio PGA event run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today.

• MONTREAL Tiger Woods said anyone who tests positive under golf s new drug policy should pay a steep price.

Given our reputation in our sport, how honorable our sport is and always has been and will continue to be, I think that the penalty has got to be somewhat significant, Woods said in a conference call to announce the field for his Target World Challenge.

The World Golf Foundation, comprised of major golf organizations around the world, announced last week that a drug policy would begin in 2008. The PGA Tour has yet to disclose the full list of banned substances until it can share it with the players, and commissioner Tim Finchem said details such as how and when to test as well as penalties are still being worked out. He said testing could begin as early as next spring.

Boxing

LOS ANGELES Boxer Jackson Bussell of Reno, Nev., died a day after collapsing at the end of a six-round bout. He was 28.

Bussell was admitted to a hospital Thursday in grave condition after a fight in Calabasas sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission. He collapsed in the ring immediately after the bout, which ended in a draw with Javier Garcia.

• MESA, Ariz. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson pleaded guilty to charges of drug possession and driving under the influence stemming from a traffic stop last year as he was leaving a nightclub.

Tyson quietly acknowledged to a judge that he had cocaine and was impaired when he was stopped for driving erratically in Scottsdale on Dec. 29.

He pleaded guilty to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count and faces up to four years and three months in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 19.

Police stopped Tyson after the boxer had spent the evening at Scottsdale s Pussycat Lounge. An officer said he saw Tyson wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his black BMW and that his speech was slurred. Authorities said they found bags of cocaine in Tyson s pocket and in his car.

NHL

TAMPA Martin St. Louis scored two power-play goals to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning past the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in a preseason game.

Andre Roy and Andreas Karlsson also scored for the Lightning. Karri Ramo had 20 saves.

Detroit got goals from Jonathan Ericsson, Johan Franzen, and Brett Lebda, who scored with 3:31 left in the third to make it 4-3. Chris Osgood played two periods and stopped 14 of 18 shots.

Most of Detroit s regulars didn t make the trip.

Tampa Bay was without Vincent Lecavalier, who led the NHL with 52 goals last season. The center left Saturday s game against Washington with an upper body injury.
