NCAA men s golf championships at Inverness Club:

• Monday: 9 a.m. practice round (shotgun start)

• Tuesday: 7 a.m. First round (156 players, 30 teams)

• Wednesday: 7 a.m. Second round (156 players, 30 teams)

• Thursday: 7 a.m. Third round (awards presentation, crowning of individual champion on 18th green following play. Top 15 finishers also awarded)

• Friday: 7 a.m. Match play (quarterfinal matches off 1st tee); 2 p.m. Match play (semifinal matches off first tee)

• Saturday: 10 a.m. Match play (final match off first tee in 10-minute intervals)

Parking

Parking for all fans will be on Dana property directly across Dorr Street from Inverness Club. To access the public lot, turn north off Dorr onto Penn Road and follow signage. Police officers will be on hand to stop Dorr Street traffic, allowing fans to cross while walking to and from the course. The parking fee is $5 per vehicle.

Regular club lots on the south side of Dorr are reserved for tournament officials and contestants. A special pass is needed for entry.

Facts & Highlights

• This championship has been the top annual competition in U.S. men s collegiate golf since 1897. That year the team champion was Yale and the individual champion was Louis Bayard, Jr. of Princeton

• Individual winners who have gone on to successful PGA careers include Jack Nicklaus (1961), Hale Irwin (1967), Tiger Woods (1996) and three time champions Ben Crenshaw (1971, 72 and 73) and Phil Mickelson (1989, 90 and 92)

• There will be 30 teams of five players participating in the 2009 championship hosted by The University of Toledo. Six individual players will also participate

About Inverness

• Founded in February, 1903, Inverness Club has hosted eight major championships and was the first club to welcome golf professionals into the clubhouse at its first major, the U.S. Open in 1920. It is also the site of the longest playoff in U.S. Open history in 1931. Inverness will host the 2011 U.S. Senior Open.

• The club was named after the Village of Inverness in Scotland. The village gave permission to use not only the name, but also its crest which includes the Latin words Concordia et Fidelitas which translates to Harmony and Faithfulness.

• The only other NCAA men s golf championship played at Inverness Club was in 1944. Notre Dame was the winner.

Course rules

• Spectators should remain on cart paths or in the rough, and approximately 15 yards from the players.

• Carts will be available for rules officials only.

• Cell phones are prohibited at Inverness except in the on-course lightning shelters, the restrooms of the halfway house, and the private meeting areas of the clubhouse.

• The men s and women s locker rooms are not open to the public.

• The 10th tee snack bar and the on-course halfway house will be accepting cash payment for spectators drinks and snacks.

• Refreshments are provided on the tee boxes for the competitors, coaches, and rules officials only.

• There may be no communication between players and spectators that could be deemed advice of any nature for the duration of play.

• All institutional personnel, with the exception of the designated coach, are considered spectators.

Violations/Penalties

• First: Warning

• Second: Spectator will be removed from the course for the remainder of the day.

• Third: Spectator will be removed from the course for the remainder of the competition

Restrooms

• No general public will have access anywhere inside the clubhouse for the week; only properly credentialed individuals. Public restroom access will be limited to portable restrooms located in the main parking area and at the halfway house.

Concessions

• Spectator concessions will be located on a patio near the 10th tee and at the Halfway House, located behind the fourth tee.

First-aid

• Spectator first-aid is located at the Halfway House which islocated behind the fourth tee.

Handicap seating

• The Handicap seating areas will be behind the first and the 10th tee. There will also be handicap accessibility to the ninth and 18th green.
