U.S. SENIOR OPEN

Browne regains Open lead

BLADE STAFF

Florida native Olin Browne has regained the lead down the stretch in the final round of the U.S. Senior Open at Inverness Club on Sunday afternoon.

Browne has been the leader since Day 1 and entered today’s action with a two shot lead at 14-under par. Browne, who has no birdies and one bogey today, is still leading despite being 1-over par through 13 holes.

Houston native Mark O’Meara had pulled even with Browne for the lead at 14-under. But O’Meara bogeyed hole No. 13 and Browne took the lead outright with a par on the hole.

O’Meara has three birdies, but he also has three bogeys today and is at even par through 13 holes.

O’Meara and Browne are paired up today and teed off at 1:45 p.m. The duo is now through 13 holes.

On Saturday, Browne shot a blazing 65 — two days after firing a Senior Open first-round record 64. O’Meara shot an impressive 66 in the third round but ended up losing ground to Browne.

Ohio State graduate Joey Sindelar and Mark Calcavecchia are tied for third at four shots back. The duo is 10-under for the tournament through hole No. 14.

Hale Irwin and Australian Peter Senior are tied for fifth at 9-under.
