Genoa's Lindesmith scores 29

GENOA - Kelly Lindesmith scored 29 points to lead Genoa to a 53-52 victory over Oak Harbor last night in girls basketball, and went over 1,000 points for her career in the process.

The Comets had a four-point lead when Oak Harbor hit a 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left. Genoa hit 25 of 39 free throws to Oak Harbor's 11 of 22.

Lindesmith, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 19.5 points per game last season, but missed the final eight games with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

She made 13 of 16 free throws and seven field goals, including two 3-pointers, while running her career total to 1,005 points.

Jodi Moritz added 15 points, including 7 of 11 free throws. Genoa grabbed 32 rebounds to the Rockets' 29, led by Joanna Lewandowski with 10.

Mary Missig was high for Oak Harbor with 14 points and Jennifer Byrne added 10.

ST. URSULA 62, COLUMBIAN 49

St. Ursula turned up the defensive pressure after trailing 20-14 after one quarter.

The Arrows used balance as Andrea Romano and Sharyce Banks each scored 13 points, Natalie Waldon had 12 and Ashley Burgin 11.

HOLGATE 53, MAUMEE 43

Jenny Fruth scored 18 points and Vanessa Rothman added 15 for Holgate. Reva Kerkulah paced the Panthers with 11.

ELMWOOD 71, BOWLING GREEN 56

BLOOMDALE - Transfer student Danielle Reynolds scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Elmwood. Sarah Morgart added 16 points and Meghan Gonzales and Stephanie Faughsnaugh 11 each.

Melissa Hoehner and Nicole Coffey-Avery each tallied 16 points for the Bobcats.

OTTOVILLE 68, WAYNE TRACE 57

OTTOVILLE - Mata Gerding scored 19 points and Michelle Borst added 17 for Ottoville.

PORT CLINTON 65, ST. WENDELIN 31

PORT CLINTON - The Redskins forced 49 turnovers and had 10 more rebounds than the Mohawks.

Natalie Leary and Marie Wehenkel each scored 16 points for Port Clinton.

LAKOTA 72, HOPEWELL-LOUDON 58

BASCOM - The Raiders shot just 29 per cent but forced 50 turnovers, and Kristen Lentz scored 21 points, Brandy Ritter 18, Renee Chaney 15 and Jenny Widman 10.
