50-50 the ticket for Waite; Veres sparks Whitmer victory

Waite scored 100 points last night - 50 in each half, no more than 26 in any quarter ands no less than 24.

In a 100-52 boys basketball victory over Gibsonburg at Waite, 11 Indians scored, led by Jamall Baldwin with 19 points and 10 assists.

Terron Hereford added 16 points, Jeremy McDonald 15 and Paul Williams 12.

Aaron Kaseman led Gibsonburg with 17 points and Lance Woodruff added 10.

WHITMER 60, ST. FRANCIS 59

Dave Veres scored a game-high 21 points, including the winning point on a free throw with seven seconds left, to lead the visiting Panthers to victory.

The Knights had a 37-29 lead at halftime, but were outscored 22-11 in the third quarter.

With the scored tied at 59-all, Whitmer (1-1) had been holding the ball for the last shot when Veres was fouled. He made the first and missed the second, and St. Francis missed a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Gerald Fletcher added 11 points for the Panthers. Max Bastian and Joe Franks paced St. Francis (1-1) with 15 points apiece.

Whitmer sank 7 of 13 free throws, while the Knights meshed 18 of 30 at the line.

ROGERS 70, ADRIAN 55

Dominic Harrison scored 21 points and Eric Jones added 20 for Rogers.

EVERGREEN 54, TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 42

METAMORA - After trailing 20-17 at the half, Evergreen went to a 2-2-1 full court press and outscored Toledo Christian 21-8 in the third quarter.

Jake Teal led Evergreen (2-0) with 18 points and Matt Mossing added 15.

Tony Gioiella and Sunny Oshodin scored 10 each for Toledo Christian (0-2).

OTTAWA HILLS 70, DEERFIELD 52

Kevin Crooks scored 24 points, Austin Irving added 20 and Dan Jamieson 10 for the Green Bears, who outrebounded visiting Deerfield 30-17.

Ryan Iott and Chris Stamper led Deerfield with 14 apiece.

A 22-10 advantage in the third quarter enabled the Green Bears to pull away.

Ottawa Hills outscored Deerfield 22-3 at the foul line.

NORTHWOOD 60, WOODMORE 48

Ken Wines scored 19 points, pacing four Rangers in double figures as host Northwood surged to a 41-24 lead after three quarters and held off Woodmore.

Rob Gladieux added 12 points, Eric Greer 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Shaneck 10 points for Northwood (2-0). Wines also had eight rebounds and three assists.

Dan Lieske and Justin Perkins led the Wildcats (0-2) with 14 and 13 points, respectively, and Scott Bergman tallied 10.

EMMANUEL BAPTIST 82, WHITEFORD 54

The Warriors had five players score in double figures and hit 22 of 24 from the free throw line.

Drew Flamm scored a game-high 29 points for Emmanuel Baptist. Clint and Lance Bernhard each scored 11 points for the Warriors, while Steve Morris had 12 and Darrel Lathery 15.

Andy Gittus paced Whiteford with 23.

MONROE ST. MARY 37, BEDFORD 28

TEMPERANCE - Bryan Upchurch and Eric Lehmann each scored nine points as Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central won a defensive battle.

Phil Peake led Bedford with eight points.

BLISSFIELD 48, SAND CREEK 46

BLISSFIELD - The Royals won their opener as Derek Feldkamp scored 16 points and Chris Niles added 14.

Leon Waltz scored 19 for the Aggies (0-1), with Marcus Walsh contributing 13.

MONROE 50, SALEM 47

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Monroe outscored Salem 23-10 in the fourth quarter when Jake Loop scored eight of his 13 points.

Mike Leach led Monroe with 18 points and Will Longsworth added 10.
