City League: Baldwin gets 20 as Waite tops Start 65-54

Jamell Baldwin scored 20 points and Waite was a model of consistency - scoring 17 points in the first, third and final quarter, and 14 in the second - in a 65-54 victory at Start.

Jeremy McDonald added 12 points and Terron Hereford 10 for the Indians (3-0, 1-0).

Dominic Poellnitz led Start (1-1, 0-1) with 17 points and DanJuan Witcher added 16.

Waite hit 18 of 25 foul shots while Start made 7 of 14.

SCOTT 101, BOWSHER 49

The Bulldogs outscored Bowsher 30-10 in the second quarter and won easily in the league opener for both schools in a game played at Waite.

Scott (2-0) had six players finish in double figures, led by Derrick Ford's 20 points. Dennis Springs finished with 17, Ryan Killough had 16, Jason Lawson scored 13, Ernest Pace had 12 and Brandon Foster scored 11.

Jamaal Jones scored 20 points to lead the Rebels (1-1), while Mike Menchaca added 13.

ST. FRANCIS 72, WOODWARD 56

Tom Donovan and two six-point quarters took the measure of Woodward.

Donovan poured in 22 points, 10 in the second quarter, as the Knights ran their record to 2-1.

In each of the second and third quarters, Woodward managed just six points after leading St. Francis 23-10 after the first quarter.

Woodward was its own worst enemy at the foul line, missing eight straight in the second quarter and going 14 of 31 for the game.

Max Bastian added 18 points for the Knights.

Greg Cannon led Woodward with 12 points.
