Boys basketball: Titans blast Whitmer

Whitmer hit its first three 3-pointers and trailed by just one after one quarter, but 11-1 St. John's Jesuit totally dominated the rest of the way in an 87-49 boys basketball victory last night.

Ryan Taylor (15 points), Steve Switzer (12), Todd Thomas (12) and Brandon Barabino (10) all scored in double figures for the Titans, who also controlled the backboards, 39-18.

Dave Veres had 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter for the Panthers (4-6), who had 14 turnovers and missed 10 straight 3-pointers in the first half.


CLEVELAND HEIGHTS 89, ST. FRANCIS 54

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS - The home team jumped to a 49-24 lead at the half and never wavered.

Tom Donovan scored 9 to lead the Knights (4-7).


CENTRAL 63, ELMWOOD 51

Andy Mix scored 23 points and John Thomas added 12 for the Irish (8-2), who led 34-19 at the half.

Brian Oestreich led Elmwood (7-2) with 15 points.


NORTHVIEW 56, CLAY 37

Steve Horner scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter to lead the Wildcats (8-2).

No one was in double figures for Clay (3-7).


FOSTORIA 62, PORT CLINTON 60

PORT CLINTON - The Redmen scored on a tip-in at the buzzer.

Brice Fuller scored 15, Dane Bringman 14, Micheaux Robinson 11 and Michael Tucker 10 for Fostoria.

Ryan Heise had 16 points and 9 rebounds for Port Clinton (6-5).


ANTHONY WAYNE 55, SWANTON 43

Jeff Telmanik scored 16 of his team-high 19 points in the second half as the Generals rallied to win.

Taylor Jaskolski added 11 for AW (5-4).

Swanton (9-3) got 21 points from Chris Keesey.


STRYKER 56, MONTPELIER 51

STRYKER - Zac Wyse scored 17 and Zac Haye 12 for the Panthers, who rallied with a 21-11 fourth quarter.

John Buldas tallied 17 and Austin Saneholtz 12 for the Locomotives.


ROSSFORD 66, LAKE 47

The Bulldogs outscored the Flyers 33-11 over the second and third quarters in the road rout.

Kyle Ingraham paced the Bulldogs (3-8) with 18 points, Darren Paige added 15 and Josh Halada had 11.

Wes Blank and Matt Delauter each scored 16 for Lake (4-5).


HOLGATE 39, TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 34

Adam Huber scored 18 points to pace Holgate (9-1).

Tony Gioiella had 11 for Toledo Christian (2-8).


LIBERTY-BENTON 69, WOODMORE 47

ELMORE - Blake Mealer scored 24 points and Brady Hoane contributed 23 as Liberty-Benton improved to 9-0. The Eagles outrebounded their hosts 23-15.

A. J. Schlea paced the Wildcats (3-8) with 12 points.

OTTAWA - Curt Croy poured in 29 points for the Titans and Eric Sweet added 10.

Brent Punches tallied 16 and Tyler Meyer and Rob Flick scored 10 each for the Patriots.

KANSAS - Sean Reiter (17), Bryan Williams (16) and Bryan Smith (13) scored in double figures for the Mohawks.

Todd Schumm had 15 for Lakota.

METAMORA - Matt Mossing scored 15 points and Jake Teal and Dan Stong scored 11 apiece for the Vikings (8-3).

DELTA - Nick Neiderhouse, Nick Carroll and Seth Waits scored 18, 15 and 14 points, respectively, for undefeated Otsego.

The Knights (10-0) played smothering defense and blew the game wide open with a 24-8 second quarter for a 41-18 halftime lead.

Addy Schindorf paced the Panthers (1-11) with 16 points and teammate Ryan Parsons added 11.


TIFFIN CALVERT 69, EASTWOOD 66

TIFFIN - Nick Lucius paced Calvert (6-4) with 23 points and Andy Ritzler and Tony Mass added 17 and 12, respectively.

Thurman Lawniczak scored 23 and Brett Gabel 18 for the Eagles (6-4), who hit seven 3s in the fourth quarter and scored 32 points.
