Division III roundup: Blocked PAT costs Oak Harbor

MEDINA, Ohio - Medina Highland eked out a 21-20 Division III playoff victory last night over Oak Harbor when the Rockets' conversion-kick try was blocked after a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Joe Noggle had the Rockets (7-4) within a point when he hit Zach Levy on a 13-yard scoring pass.

J.D. Bergman had scored Oak Harbor's first two touchdowns on runs of two and seven yards.

Bergman also caught three passes for 84 yards.

Bergman gained 68 yards on 14 carries for Oak Harbor while Noggle hit 10 of 14 passes for 118 yards with no interceptions.

Sixth-ranked Medina Highland (11-0) ran for 243 yards on 33 tries while Oak Harbor picked up 150 on 42 carries.

The Rockets had air superiority - 153 yards to 22 - as Highland hit just 1 of 6 passes.

ST. MARYS, Ohio - Chad Beamer's running and Jeff Polley's passing paced Bellevue.

Beamer ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He scored on runs of four and 44 yards.

Foos caught eight passes for 102 yards.

Bellevue gained 204 yards rushing to St. Marys' 288. But St. Marys hit just 1 of 3 passes for two yards.

SUNBURY, Ohio - Charlie Smith ran for 370 yards on just 13 carries and scored five touchdowns as the top-ranked Golden Eagles pounded Upper Sandusky.

Smith scored on runs of 68 and 80 yards in the opening quarter, then added touchdown runs of 68 and 41 yards in the second period. He added a 41-yard TD gallop in the third.

The Rams' lone points came on a pair of field goals by Ryan Bear, a 28-yard kick in the first period and a 22-yard kick in the second.
