The Great Lakes League probably moved another step closer yesterday to welcoming Lima Senior and Marion Harding into the fold as the league's newest members.
GLL commissioner Larry Morrison called positive and productive a meeting of the athletic directors from GLL schools Findlay, Fremont Ross, Sandusky and Napoleon - and those from prospective members Lima Senior and Marion Harding.
“We met the requirements to reduce travel,” said Morrison, but he declined to discuss any of several recommendations he said will be presented to league principals during a meeting scheduled for Monday.
Lima Senior and Marion Harding hope to fill the void created in the GLL when Clay and Whitmer depart after the 2002-03 school year. Both schools are expected to be accepted into Toledo's City League.
“We have some good proposals to give to the principals,” Morrison said. “I think we did a lot of things to minimize travel.”
The distance between Napoleon and Marion would represent the longest road trip in the league, covering approximately 95 miles. The distance between Findlay and Lima, approximately 30 miles, would represent the shortest trip involving one of the two new schools.
