It's official: GLL to add Lima Sr., Marion Harding

12/11/2001

Great Lakes League officials unanimously agreed yesterday to accept Lima Senior and Marion Harding into the league for the 2003-04 school year .

Principals representing Findlay, Fremont Ross, Sandusky and Napoleon approved by a 4-0 vote the recommendation to add the two schools. They will replace Clay and Whitmer, two of the league's charter members who are leaving the GLL for the City League.

Current GLL member Fostoria will leave the league after this season. Napoleon, an independent since leaving the GLL in 1996, will rejoin the league next year.

Concerns about the additional travel involved with adding Lima Senior and Marion Harding to the league didn't halt league officials from approving their acceptance to the league.

“I think they (the principals) were pleased with the recommendations the athletic directors came up with as far as reducing the travel,” GLL commissioner Larry Morrison said.

A decision to determine league championships for track, cross country, swimming, golf and tennis by a single league tournament, instead of scheduling individual matches throughout the season, is one of the ways the league expects to decrease travel.
