Northern Lakes: Oak Harbor gets by Rossford 34-27

OAK HARBOR- Rossford and Oak Harbor engaged in a shootout, with the Rockets prevailing 34-27 last night.

Oak Harbor (2-0) was especially potent on the ground, with J.D. Bergman gaining 122 yards on 18 attempts and Trent Thorbahn adding 113 yards on 17 carries. Thorbahn scored twice on runs of 3 and 18 yards.

Rossford (1-1) attacked through the air, as the Bulldogs completed 17 of 29 passes for 313 yards.

Rossford's Josh Heidebrink connected on 10 of 16 passes for 220 yards, while Darren Paige was 7 of 13 for 93 yards.

Paige threw a four-yard TD pass, caught a 32-yarder from Heidebrink, and ran for a score from eight yards out.

Oak Harbor's Joe Noggle also threw one TD pass (24 yards) and scored on a pass play (48 yards).

The Bulldogs' final possession was halted by an interception near midfield as time expired.

GENOA - Tyler Rohloff rushed for 170 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns as the Comets defeated the Bobcats for the second straight year.

Rohloff also made six catches for 84 yards. He scored on a six-yard run and a 66-yard pass from Craig Schuffenecker in the first quarter.

Jason Wiciak, who gained 93 yards on 18 attempts for Genoa (1-1), scored the Comets' other two TDs, both in the fourth quarter, on runs of 11 and 12.

Chris Winkle threw two TD passes to Matt Emmans for the Bobcats (0-2). They connected on a 12-yarder in the first quarter and a 44-yarder in the second. Tyler McKinney scored for BG on a 13-yard run.

Genoa had 251 yards rushing and 101 passing. BG had 88 rushing and 88 passing.

The Comets held a 15-10 edge in first downs.

Senior running back Tom Tomasini paced the Wildcats, racking up 195 yards on 22 carries and scoring three times.

Tomasini tallied on runs of 10 and 88 yards and caught a 46-yard TD pass from Chad Zipfel.

Zipfel completed 9 of 17 passes for 127 yards. He also scored on a 2-yard run.

Northview improved to 1-1, while Port Clinton fell to 0-2.
