NWOAL roundup: Archbold turns up defense at Liberty

LIBERTY CENTER - D.J. Selgo scored 15 points and Curt Cline added 11 as Archbold defeated Liberty Center 51-36 last night.

Eric Wymer led Liberty Center with 14 points.

Liberty Center led 12-11 after one quarter, but the Streaks did not give Liberty Center a double-digit quarter thereafter.

Liberty Center outrebounded Archbold 26-21, but committed 19 turnovers to the Streaks' 15.

Archbold hit 20 of 46 shots from the field while Liberty Center hit 13 of 36.

METAMORA - Wauseon got 17 points from Troy Hoste in winning its NWOAL opener.

A shorter Evergreen team got 16 points from Doc Sheldon and Andy Weissenberger had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Evergreen (2-1, 0-1) tried a slow-down game, but that did not help.

The turning point of the game might have been the second quarter when Wauseon grabbed six offensive rebounds and outscored the Vikings 11-7.

Evergreen got within six points in the fourth quarter.

MONTPELIER - Swanton had a hard time getting started as Montpelier led 12-1 after one quarter.

B.J. Ogden led the Locomotives with 16 points and Chase Thomas added 10.

Josh Pirrwitz paced Swanton with 14 and Joe Rhodes had 13.

DEFIANCE - Eric Weber led a balanced Rams scoring attack with 13 points as Tinora had four players score in double digits.

Scott Bostelman added 12 points while Jared Bailey and Chris Rethmel each finished with 11 for the Rams (3-0).

Chris Carpenter scored a game-high 20 points to lead Bryan (0-3), while Noah Stelzer added 12.

HAMLER - The Patriots outscored the Panthers 34-16 in the second and third quarters to pull away for the victory.

Trent Meyer topped Patrick Henry with 15 points and Adam Maas added 12.

Delta's Ryan Parsons took game high-scoring honors with 21 points and teammate Chas Abbott added 16.

The Patriots made 27 of 52 shots from the field, including 9 of 18 from 3-point range.
