Girls basketball roundup: Mays, Sudduth lead Scott over St. Ursula

Scott outscored St. Ursula 19-9 to take a 32-20 halftime lead, then held off the Arrows down the stretch for a 76-62 girls City League basketball victory last night at St. Ursula.

Mattie Mays led Scott (8-2, 4-1) with 25 points, Krystle Sudduth added 18 and Ebonie Bannister 10.

Ashley Burgin led St. Ursula (5-5, 2-3) with 30 points and Kate Lohner had 17.

START 63, WOODWARD 45

Start had four players score in double figures, paced by Che Rogers and Vicki Brown, each with 14, as the Spartans ran their overall record to 10-0.

Rogers scored six of her total in the third quarter when Start made its move, outscoring the Polar Bears 16-3.

Lindsay Bowman added 12 for the Spartans and Dominique Ervin 11.

Woodward (6-6) was paced by Markeisha Hudgins' 14 and 13 by Tomeka Jones.

CENTRAL 87, WAITE 26

Kelly Helvey scored all 11 of her points as the undefeated Irish demolished the Indians 36-2 in the first quarter and rolled to their 10th victory.

Waite's Gennette McCarver led all players with 19 points, but only three Indians scored.

Nicole Brown was high for the Irish with 16 points while teammates Jessica Minnfield (12) and Corri Helldobler (10) also hit double digits.

BOWSHER 53, NOTRE DAME 49

Jazlyn Davis scored nine of her 19 points in the first quarter when Bowsher outscored Notre Dame 15-8 and then added seven in the fourth quarter when the Eagles were trying to rally. Leslie Holub and Lamesha Johnson added 10 points each.

Marissa Fields led Notre Dame with 16 and Darcy Wagner contributed 13.

ROGERS 35, LIBBEY 30

Olivia Griswold scored 13 points and the Rams led 26-15 after three quarters

Janea Wilson led Libbey with 11 points.
