Boys basketball roundup: Whiteford goes to 15-0

OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. - Anthony Miracola scored 20 points for undefeated and 11th-ranked Whiteford as it toppled sixth-ranked Lenawee Christian 63-49 last night in boys basketball.

Bobby Plumer chipped in with 17 and Joe Gust added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats (15-0). Teammate Pat O'Mara added five points and 11 rebounds.

Whiteford led by only four points at halftime and by seven going into the fourth quarter, then went to a delay game and pulled away by sinking 11 of 15 free throws.

Scott Glaser scored 19 points for Lenawee Christian (12-2).

CLEVELAND BENEDICTINE 47, ST. FRANCIS 46

Vahn Knight, Sam Jackson and Phillip Moore tallied 10 points apiece for eighth-ranked Division II Benedictine (14-2), which took its first lead in the fourth quarter after falling behind 24-12 at the half.

Dustin Szenderski made two technical free throws with 14 seconds left to pull the Knights (7-9) within one, but they missed an ensuing 3-pointer at the buzzer. Szenderski finished with 20 points.

Benedictine outrebounded St. Francis 27-15.

ELIDA 60, ST. JOHN'S 44

St. John's hung close to Elida until the final five minutes, when the Bulldogs broke loose. The Titans trailed 45-41 with about five minutes to go, then Elida (13-4) made 10 of 10 free throws down the stretch while St. John's (12-4) went four minutes without a point.

B.J. Raymond topped the Titans with 15 points, followed by Brian Roberts with 11.

Ryan Lee had 20 and Drew Adams 13 for Elida.

SANDUSKY 66, BOWSHER 55

Nate Matthews scored 13 points and Jason Prophet, Greg Garrett, Dustin Truman and Jon Heath added 10 apiece for the Blue Streaks (11-6), who nailed 7 of 18 3-point tries.

Chad Snyder tossed in 18 points for the Rebels (7-9). Marquel Jefferson and Eric Brooks added 12 apiece and Jerome Cooper had 11.

KENTON 67, WOODWARD 63

KENTON, Ohio - Jared Boselman tallied 26, including the game-winning points, for Kenton.

Alex Malone tossed in 26 and Vince Butler had 10 for the Polar Bears (2-14).

CLAY 60, WAITE 55

John Nelson scored 22 points, Bryan McDougle added 13 and Adam Laurell had 10 for the visiting Eagles (9-8), who won in double overtime.

Mike Lucas and Darrion Griffin scored 13 and 12, respectively, for the Indians (3-13).

START 83, LISTOWELL 43

The Spartans were too much for Listowell of Ontario, Canada, as they roared out to a 47-19 halftime lead and coasted home.

Allen Drake led Start (3-12) with 16 points, while Jermain Jones added 11 and Anthony Gray and Cameron McCausky 10 apiece.

LIBBEY 57, DUBLIN SCIOTO 54

Ernie Reed and Ronnell Isom scored 12 points apiece and David Osby added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Cowboys (10-5).

Scioto tied the game twice in the fourth quarter but could not take the lead.

FINDLAY 69, LIMA SHAWNEE 60

FINDLAY - Matt Whittenmyer scored all eight of his points in the third quarter as the Trojans outscored the visitors 22-10 to build a lead.

Rob Young scored 20 and LeDaniel Mangas and Tyler Riley added 12 apiece for Findlay (11-7).

Jamar Butler tallied 18 for Shawnee (11-5).

BOWLING GREEN 65, OAK HARBOR 49

BOWLING GREEN - Eric Radabaugh scored 11 points and Chris Hanna had 10 for the Bobcats (13-5).

Rob McGuire tallied 16 and Dave Bensch had 13 for the Rockets, who had six of their 19 turnovers in the second quarter and fell behind 29-14 at the half.

WAUSEON 58, ELMWOOD 53

BLOOMDALE - Troy Hoste scored 13 points and Ben Gunn had 11 for the Indians (13-4), who led 27-20 at the half.

Travis Rothenbuhler scored 21 and Kyle Rhoad 11 for the Royals (11-7).

NEW RIEGEL 74, LAKOTA 62

KANSAS - Tyson Depinet tossed in 19 points and Aaron Mathias and Brandon Reinhart added 16 apiece for the Blue Jackets.

Bryan Chaney scored 13 and Grant Nowak and Andrew Hoffman had 11 each for the Raiders.

ARCHBOLD 62, TINORA 45

ARCHBOLD - After a 12-12 first-quarter tie, the Blue Streaks outscored the Rams 31-18 in the middle two periods to take control.

DJ Selgo led Archbold (13-3) with 22 points and Josh Johnson added 11. Ian Weber was high for Tinora (12-6) with 16 points and Adam Hornish scored 11.

HAMLER - Charlie Kelly scored 12 and Lee Brubaker had 11 for the Tigers.

Zach Wensink scored 11 and Adam Maas and Trent Meyer 10 each for the Patriots (13-5), who had 19 turnovers.

PIONEER - Ryan Miller scored 18 points and Colt Fackler had 14 for the Eagles.

Ryan Parson tallied 21 and Chas Abbott added 12 for the Panthers. Both teams are 4-13.

FAYETTE 58, EVERGREEN 47

METAMORA - Shane Kunkle poured in 17 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles outscored the home team 24-16. Heath Armstrong scored 24.

Doc Skeldon tallied 26 and Matt Brown had 13 for the Vikings (11-7).
